Karl Kellner

Karl Kellner currently works with the European Commission in the Directorate General for Energy (DG ENER) as Adviser to the Director for new and renewable sources of energy, energy efficiency and innovation, Marie C. Donnelly, responsible for the development of the policy and actions on energy efficiency; further responsibilities include the development of policies and actions leading to the achievement of the EU 20% target for renewable energy and the coordination of the research actions in the field of energy including the development of technologies and innovative solutions for low carbon technologies.

Previously, he was member of three Task Forces on financing issues within the European Commission, i.e. on the European Energy Efficiency Fund, the new Financial Perspectives and Financing Low Carbon Energy of DG Transport and Energy (DG TREN) in 2008.

Before these assignments, he was Head of Unit “Energy RTD Programme Management”, “New and Renewable Energy Sources” and “Electricity and Nuclear Energy” in DG TREN.

Prior to joining the European Commission early 2000, he was Head of Electricity and Cogeneration Division in Energy Department in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs (BMwA) in Vienna, Austria.

From 1984 to 1987, he worked as Senior Policy Analyst in the Long-Term Office of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris.
